Custer County (Oklahoma)

Custer County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Arapaho.

Geography

The County is located in western Oklahoma, is about 60 km from Texas and has an area of ​​2595 square kilometers, of which 40 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Dewey County, Blaine County, Caddo County, Washita County, Beckham County and Roger Mills County.

History

Custer County was formed as an original county of Cheyenne country as G County on April 19, 1892. On November 6, 1896, was renamed in Custer County, according to the U.S. General George Armstrong Custer, who was killed in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the third official land ownership acquisition of 19 April 1892.
