Cut (cards)

Off, engl. cut, French couper, hence cutting or coupieren is a term from the card game, it is used in more than one meaning. The term cut refers to further a particular type of mixing and occasionally mixing in general ( see, eg, shock ).

The answers after mixing

By the lifting of a card game after the mixing a possible manipulation of the order of the cards by the players will be mixed neutralized and thus also avoided. However, the lifting is not only used to prevent tampering, but in particular to the top or bottom card, which could be detected as a result of carelessness during mixing, to sink in the middle of the stack.

Bridge, Canasta, Rummy and Skat

Many card look very strict rules before, as picking is carried out, as is the case with the Bridge:

After shuffling the cards of the splitter ( transmitter) defines the package with the back side up in front of his neighbors on the right. This assumes greater part of the package, although he did receive at least four cards and at least four cards must be on the table, and sets part of the package next to it on the table. The divider - and not the player who has lifted (!) - Now takes the originally lowermost part of the package and submit it to the raised deck.

Binds when Canasta, a card basket ( canasta tray ) is used, the contrasting player should take about a third of the package and put this part of the package into the card cage, the dealer then does the rest, divides the cards and places then the remainder of the stack to the raised part in the card cage.

The bottom card of the stack must be lifted in most games can not be considered - one exception is when Rummy, if it is played with the rule that a player when he finds a Joker when you lift, keep this ( rob, not to be confused with replacing a joker ) may.

Similar rules as for Bridge exist in Skat and many other games, but the minimum number of cards in the two stacks often varied.

Baccarat, Blackjack, Red Dog, Trente et quarante

Quarante In games such as Baccarat, Blackjack, Red Dog or Trente et, as well as other casino games with six packages of the cards are cut ( coupiert ): the croupier takes the deck and places it on the table so that the cards on a longitudinal side rest on the table. One player takes the so-called edge card ( Cut card, Carte de coupe ) and intersects it into the pile of cards, the actual take-off takes the croupier before.

Scarne cut

Cheaters have developed a variety of compelling ways to either faking a lifting or to make a real lifting reversed. False gambling expert John Scarne therefore recommended that the following procedure: the Scarne cut the contrasting player draws the middle third of the deck out and present it at the top of the package, then it will take about the top half of the shock and lays on top of the lower part. This procedure is virtually inconspicuous reversible and protects at least against manipulation by the mixing ends. Also a possible conspiracy between the mixing ends and the contrasting difficult by this method. Of course also offers the use of Scarne cut will not protect against other foul play. ( According to John Scarne: Scarne on Card Games, New York 1949/65, Courier Dover Publications reprint 2004)

The drawing of lots of seats or partnerships

Process at very formal game will be facing a game of cards, the seats or at Bridge and Canasta dissolved the partnership, it is as follows: A player shuffles the packet takes off and spreads the stack crescent shape on the table, then each player draws a card. This procedure is also known in English as cutting, and so for the designation of the talk has also naturalized in German.

The drawing cards

For the Rummy family, Canasta or Mau - Mau Playing buying or drawing cards from the shock ( Talon ) is often also called lift-off.
