Cutrofiano

Cutrofiano is a town with 9125 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lecce in the Italian region of Puglia.

Cutrofiano is located 27 km south of Lecce and is rich in historical and cultural treasures.

History

The exact name of the city is due to Cultus Jani, who worked for the Roman Empire. At this time in the area in which Cutrofiano is today, a forest, the of " Venerato ", the god Giano, was named " Cutrubbo " back then. He handed over the land to the inhabitants, who had been banished from the neighboring villages.

At the time of Greek rule byzantinanischen the village of their rituals and customs was formally dressed magical. They formed after together with the county of Soleto and the Chairman of Taranto in the years 1088 to 1463 the inhabitants of Cutrubbo ( Cutrofiano ).   • Cathedral:

Cutrofianos Cathedral was built in 1760. The Cathedral entrance is of two important statues that show the Virgin of the snow and of San Antonio of Padova, framed. The Altar of Saint Gaetano in its interior is the work of the sculptor Domenico Miccoli.
