Cuve

Cuve is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cuve lies at an altitude of 245 m above sea level, 5 km northwest of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse and about 32 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme north of the department, a slight increase on the northern edge of the valley of the Dorgeon, at the edge of the plateau of the Voge.

The area of ​​8.10 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the gently undulating countryside on the outskirts of the Voge. From northwest to southeast, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung of Dorgeon, which ensures the drainage of the Lanterne Saône. The valley is on average 235 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. In Cuve flows from the north of the Ruisseau du Pont Mirot. The Talniederung is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which is divided by the troughs of short Seitentälchen Dorgeon. To the southwest of the municipality floor extends to the height of La Levue ( to 280 m). Agricultural land use predominates here. North of the Dorgeon the plateau gradually rises to the wooded heights of the Grand Bois. Here the highest elevation of Cuve is achieved with 335 m.

In geological- tectonic terms, the main part of the municipality of limestone of the Middle Triassic. To the north it includes a narrow zone with sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). Further north and sandstone of the Lower Triassic is revealed.

Neighboring communities of Cuve are Fontenoy- le -Château in the north, Bouligney in the east, the south and Anjeux Dampvalley -Saint- Pancras to the west.

History

In the Middle Ages Cuve belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the monastery of Luxeuil. The existence of a noble family named Cuve occupied since 1372. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Cuve is a member of the 20 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Belles Sources.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Remi was rebuilt in 1775 and has paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. From the 18th century comes a Calvaire and the great seat of power. The covered Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle, was built in the 19th century.

Population

With 166 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cuve is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 335 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded after a prolonged period of stagnation since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Cuve was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D417 which leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains to Bourbonne -les -Bains. Further road links exist with Fontenoy- le -Château, Dampvalley -Saint- Pancras and Anjeux.
