Cuvier (Jura)

Cuvier is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cuvier is located 825 meters above sea level. M., about 15 km northeast of the city Champagnole (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura, on the vast plateau that connects north to the Val de Mièges, southeast of the forest area Domaniale Forêt de la Joux.

The area of ​​10.32 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by a plateau, the average at 830 m above sea level. M. lies. It has only very small differences in relief and is mainly of meadow and pasture land in the northern part covered by forest. History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Cuvier was already inhabited in the Neolithic period and during the Gallo- Roman period. In the 13th century a chapel of Cuvier is mentioned in writing. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule Nozeroy. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

Population
