Cuvierian tubules

Cuviersche hoses (after Georges Cuvier ) are the enemy defenses serving institutions of many sea cucumbers ( Holothuroidea ). Cuviersche hoses have probably developed from modified gills and sit at the rectum. They are hurled at the attacker at threat and form a sticky, viscous network that is very flexible and in which fish, crustaceans, molluscs or other predators can catch. The adhesives may also contain toxins ( Holothurine ).
