Cuxac-d'Aude

Cuxac -d'Aude is a commune with 4122 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the district of Narbonne, for Canton Coursan and the Local Government Association, Grand Narbonne.

Geography

The community - Cuxac d'Aude is located seven kilometers north of the city center of Narbonne, and about 17 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast.

The table almost flat area extends from the Aude in the south to the border with the department of Hérault in the north. Interrupted the plane through two island-like hill ( Roque Vacquière and Mont Carretou ). The municipal area is treeless except for a small strip at the northern and southern banks of the River Aude.

The village on the left bank of the Aude is characterized by narrow streets, semi-circle around the core of the building is lighter. North of the village core, the district of Pont des Graves extends over a length of 2500 meters in east-west direction. There are also several hamlets and isolated farms, of which the wineries Aubian and Rabbes are named by name in the north.

Cuxac -d'Aude bordered to the north by Montel, on the northeast by Poilhes ( point of contact ) and Nissan -lez -Enserune ( contact point), to the east by Coursan, south to Narbonne, on the southwest by Moussan, on the west by Sallèles -d ' Aude and to the northwest by Ouveillan.

History

In Gallo -Roman period a settlement called Geminian existed on the territory of the municipality Cuxac to the 10th century. In the Middle Ages Cuxac was surrounded by ramparts and passable only by three gates, of which the St. Martin's Gate still stands today. The Romanesque apse of the Gothic Church of St. Martin probably dates from the 10th century.

Frequent floods one was forced to the dikes on the Aude constantly to increase and stabilize. So today are the near-shore areas of Cuxac below the Aude level. In addition, numerous weirs and discharge channels were created.

Economy and infrastructure

While earlier in Cuxac the cultivation of grain and sheep farming dominated, the main livelihood is the vineyard today. The order Cuxac -d'Aude cultivated wine belong to an origin protected wine region. The cooperative winery geminian founded in 1935, still produces high-quality varietal wines, including Chardonnay, Viognier and Merlot.

Transport links

By Cuxac parallel to Autoroute A9 trunk road running from Beziers to Narbonne leads. In the eastern neighboring community Coursan is following the railway line from Bordeaux to Sète on Narbonne.
