Cuyo (Argentina)

As Cuyo refers to a region in western Argentina. It is a dry, steppe -like area with some oases, which borders the Andes. Regional capital, Mendoza.

Most are using the term the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis called that have now merged to form the Región Cuyo. In some documents, the provinces of La Rioja and Catamarca to be counted (also called " Nuevo Cuyo "). The Catamarca province, however, belongs officially to the Región Norte Grande and is usually counted to Northwest Argentina.

Particularly characteristic of the Cuyo region is the wine. Economical is the Cuyo in Argentina's midfield, especially the province of San Luis has developed into a relatively affluent area since 1980 from the poorhouse.
