Cŵn Annwn

In Welsh mythology, Annwn were the CWN [ ku: n anʊn ] the dogs Annwns, the Kingdom of the underworld.

These dogs have red ears and white, ghostly body, similar to the supernatural cows from some Irish sagas. They were members of the Wild Hunt, led either by Arawn, or, in some later myths, Gwynn ap Nudd.

In Wales, they were compared with migrating geese, presumably because their cry in the night barking dogs recalls. Arawn and the hounds are Mallt - y-Nos sometimes accompanied by a terrible old woman named ( Matilda the night). One of the dogs named Drudwyn began under Mabon ap Modron the wild boar Twrch Trwyth.
