Cy Laurie

Cyril " Cy " Laurie ( born April 20, 1926 in London, † 18 April 2002) was a British jazz clarinetist and bandleader.

Live and work

Cy Laurie was self-taught on the clarinet; In 1947 he founded his own band to the 1948 George Melly was come. 1949/50, he played with Mike Daniels and directed the 1950 Cy Laurie Four with Fred Hunt and Les Jowett. In 1951 he led his own club in London and led a seven-member ensemble; played in it, among other things, Chris Barber, Alan Elsdon, Al Fairweather, John Picard and Colin Smith. Cy Laurie's Club was the Ham Yard and was in the 1960s, the legendary Mod Club The Scene.

From 1960 to 1968 he retired from the music business; End of the decade, he led another ensemble.
