1,4-cyclohexane ( CHDM ) is one of the organic compounds from the class of diols. There are two isomeric forms, cis- and the trans-isomer.

Production

1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol by hydrogenation of dimethyl terephthalate is recovered. The reaction proceeds in two steps, starting with the conversion of dimethyl terephthalate in 1,4- dimethyl hexahydroterephthalate ( DMHT ). In the second step DMHT is hydrogenated to CHDM on. The cis / trans ratio of the CHDM is different depending on the catalyst, of at 80:20 Cu4Ru12 catalyst 65:35 when Ru -Pt - Ru catalyst, and at 88:12 Sn catalyst.

Use

1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol is a raw material for industrial production of polyurethanes and polyesters such as polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate (PCT)
