Cyclothymia

Cyclothymia (not to be confused with cyclothymia, see below) refers to a protracted instability of drive and mood. Situated Superimposed (in addition ) can hypomanic, manic or depressive episodes occur.

It alternating periods of depression (including the severity of mild depression to change ) and periods of elevated mood and increased energy from. These dynamic fluctuations can both spontaneous and reactive ( triggered by events ) occur. A cyclothymia develops usually already in late adolescence or early adulthood and holds often for a lifetime, with drive and mood can remain inconspicuous for months.

The Cyclothymia is in ICD- 10 under the affective disorders classified ( F34 ). The symptoms reminiscent of the appearance of bipolar affective disorder ( F31 ), but strongly attenuated. Above average occur frequently bipolar affective disorders in the biological relationship.

The outdated term " cyclothymia " is not identical with cyclothymia. It corresponded to today's bipolar affective disorder. It was coined in 1880 by Karl Ludwig Kahlbaum ( 1828-1899 ) and should capture their " zyklierende " nature.
