Cyfluthrin is a mixture of several isomers of chemical compounds from the group of pyrethroids and nitriles.

Production and representation

Cyfluthrin can be obtained from 5-methyl- or 5 -carboxy -2- fluorobromobenzene starting.

Properties

Cyfluthrin is a flammable brown solid which is practically insoluble in water. The technical product is often a brownish oily liquid with odor bittermandelartigem. Technical cyfluthrin consists of a mixture of four diastereomeric pairs of enantiomers (ie eight isomers), which consist of two cis- and two trans-isomers pairs. Cyfluthrin is with a typical purity of 92 % was prepared ( sum of isomers ), in which six additional impurities can be identified. Add water and air it builds up from 4 - fluoro-3- phenoxybenzaldehyde to 4 - fluoro-3- phenoxybenzoic.

Use

Cyfluthrin is used as an active ingredient from the group of pyrethroids in pesticides and wood preservatives. It was first registered in 1981 in the United States.

In Switzerland, in Austria and in Germany (as beta-cyfluthrin ) several pesticides are allowed that contain cyfluthrin as the active ingredient.
