Cygusy

Cygusy (formerly Cyguß, Cygus or Cyguss, 1938-45 The Goat ) is a small village in Poland. It belongs to the municipality Sztum in powiat Sztumski the Pomeranian province. The place Sztum is about six kilometers north-west.

History

The village was a manor in the Middle Ages and was called Czegenfus or Czeginfus. 1538 the village was mentioned as kulmisches farming village in the district Stuhm as Czegenffusz. 1772, the village had seven residential buildings, in which 102 Catholic inhabitants lived. The village belonged to the Church of Postolin and was in the possession of those of Slupow - Szembek. 1872 was recorded as a manor Cyguss. 1910 was hardly changed the number of inhabitants 110 inhabitants. In 1922 it was registered as a manor owned by Boleslaw of Brochwicz - Donimirski. 1933 the population had slightly increased to 150 and belonged to the government instead of Sztum. With the dissolution of the estate districts Cygusy 1938 with the community Kollosomp ( Kalsen ) was pooled. During the period of National Socialism, the village was renamed to The Goat. In 1945, the village of Poland. Today, the village has about 180 inhabitants.

The name

The name means, loosely translated as "Gypsies".
