Common Eichengallwespe ( Cynips quercusfolii )

Cynips is the name of a genus of the family of gall wasps ( Cynipidae ). The species of this genus live gall forming on the underside of oak leaves. They in turn are infested with parasites, which can lay eggs through the walls of plant habitation of Cynips wasps. 1930 Alfred Charles Kinsey published under the title The Gall Wasp Genus Cynips: A Study in the Origin of Species a monograph on the genus. With the exception of the Baltic states, Belarus, Russia and some other smaller areas, the genus is represented throughout Europe.

Morphology

Cynips species have a thick humped thorax and abdomen a short pedunculated. The under-wing of the animals are not veined. The sensors consist of 14 to 15 segments.
