The Cretan Hound's Tongue ( Cynoglossum creticum ) is a plant of the genus dog tongue ( Cynoglossum ).

Features

The Cretan Hound's Tongue is a biennial, 20-80 cm tall plant. In the first year of growth only a rosette of lance-shaped, dense, soft, hairy leaves is formed. In the second year of the inflorescence, where the sheets sit half amplexicaul appears. The short- stalked flowers appear in contract leafless winding, they are at first pink, later pale blue with striking dark nerves. The crown of the flower is 7-9 mm long, the blunt - fünflappige, bare hem is about as long as the tube. The fruits are curved, densely covered with barbed spines 5-7 mm wide nutlets without a thickened edge. The Cretan Hound's Tongue flowers from April to June.

Dissemination

The Cretan Hound's Tongue is found in the Mediterranean region, where it grows on wasteland, roadsides, in pine forests and open grassy areas.
