Cyprien Richard

Cyprien Richard ( born January 27, 1979 in Thonon -les- Bains ) is a French alpine skier. His specialist discipline is the giant slalom.

Biography

Richard took in December 1994 for the first time participate in FIS races. Inserts in the European Cup was followed from January 1998. Though he started on December 17, 2000 in Val d'Isere for the first time at a World Cup race, but never succeeded him for a long time to obtain a countable income. Due to an injury he could 2005 not a single racing contest.

Only in the 2007/ 08 season he achieved a breakthrough in the extended world leaders. As 24 of the giant slalom in Beaver Creek on December 2, 2007, he brought the first World Cup points, on 8 March 2008 he came in Kranjska Gora in the top ten before. He scored his first podium on 14 March 2008 at the World Cup finals in Bormio, when he surprisingly went in the giant slalom at the third place. In the same season he reached the European Cup with a win third place in the giant slalom discipline standings.

In the 2008/2009 season was a fifth place his only top- 10 finish in the World Cup, while he again achieved a third place in the giant slalom in Alta Badia in winter 2009/2010 and a further three times drove into the top ten. Without result of the Frenchman remained at the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere and the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010. Both times he could not finish the giant slalom.

On January 8, 2011 Richard celebrated in the giant slalom in Adelboden his first World Cup victory, in which he was as fast as Aksel Lund Svindal. Previously, he was already once stood on the podium in the 2010/11 season as the second giant slalom in Alta Badia. In the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he won the French team the team competition, he also became vice world champion in giant slalom. In the season 2011/12, Richard had no World Cup podium. His best result was a fifth place in the giant slalom in Adelboden.

In the 2012/13 season Richard was no more than eleventh addition, the following winter was an eighth place his best result. Mid- February 2014 he crashed at the European Cup giant slalom of Borovets, to which he had begun in preparation for the Olympics, and pulled a torn ACL to his left knee.
