Cypriot legislative election, 2011

The parliamentary elections in Cyprus in 2011 to the House of Representatives was held on May 21, 2011.

Results

In choosing the two major parties did AKEL ( Communist ) and Democratic Rally ( conservative) to; DIKO lost easily. Democratic Rally was 34.3 percent of the vote and the strongest party holds 20 of 56 seats in Parliament, AKEL 19 ( 32.7 percent), DIKO 9, EDEK 5, EVROKO 2, Green 1 seat In total, 531 393 of 418 181 persons entitled to vote their voice, which corresponds to an abstention rate of 21.3 percent ( in Cyprus voting is compulsory, offenses are not prosecuted ).

The Cypriot House of Representatives voted on June 2, 2011 the Chairman of the EDEK ( socialists ), Yiannakis Omirou, with the votes of the then opposition ( Democratic Rally, EDEK, EVROKO and a DIKO dissenter ) as its new president.
