Disasters
On December 28, 1970, Trans Caribbean Airways Flight 505 landed next to the start and runway and caught fire. Two of the 48 passengers died on 27 April 1976 and shot the plane of the flight 625 of American Airlines over the runway beyond. It killed 37 of 88 passengers. As a result of the disaster, the airline took only propeller planes instead of jets, until the runway was extended.
