Cyril J. Mockridge

John Cyril Mockridge ( born August 6, 1896 in London, † January 18, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii ) was a British- American film music composer.

Life

Mockridge was initially pianist and received his piano studies at the Royal Academy of Music in his hometown of London. In 1922 he emigrated to the United States because he figured to greater professional opportunities here. With the beginning of the sound film, he received from 1931 initial offers from the film industry. For 20th Century Fox, he worked as an arranger, and later as a composer. From 1959 worked mainly for television. Mockridge received an Academy Award nomination for the musical adaptation of the musical Guys and Dolls. He was considered an experienced craftsman who wrote songs as well matching of comedies and dramatic accompaniments of Western or dramas.
