Cysoing

Cysoing is a commune with 4672 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pays de Pévèle.

Geography

Cysoing is on an average height of 38 meters above sea level on the border of the French part of the former county of Flanders ( Pays Pévèle ) to Lille Métropole Communauté urbaine, 16 kilometers southeast of Lille and 18 kilometers west of the Belgian city of Tournai. The Riez de Bourghelles, a tributary of the Marque river flows south of the town center by the municipality, which has an area of ​​13.62 square kilometers.

History

Margrave Eberhard of Friuli (French Évrard de Friuli, 810-866 ) and his wife Gisela (French Gisèle; 819/822-874 ) founded the Abbey of Saint - Calixte de Cysoing in the 9th century. The couple was very interested in relics and had her brought I from Brescia to Cysoing in the year 854 the relics of Catholic saints Calixtus. Culture
