Cyst

A cyst (Greek: kystis, bubble ') is a by an epithelium ( skin ) tissue enclosed cavity, which may consist of several chambers and contains liquid. A cyst can have various causes. It may contain tissue fluid ( interstitial fluid ), blood, pus or sebum.

Cysts are differentiated into epithelium-lined cysts and pseudocysts real, which are only surrounded by connective tissue. A third group includes the skin cysts, sebaceous cysts which ( atheromas ), follicle and Epithelzysten and Federbalgzysten ( veterinary medicine) count.

If the cyst an outflow impairment based, one speaks of a retention cyst.

Even parasites can form cysts in man. They can occur in the liver or in the urinary bladder in echinococcosis, schistosomiasis and amoebae.

The polycystic kidney disease, however, is usually based on a hereditary cause or a drug injury. Cysts in the lung occur in cystic fibrosis ( cystic fibrosis).

The surgical removal of a cyst is called a cystectomy. However, this term is used in medicine mainly for bladder removal.
