Cytoglobin

Cytoglobin is a member of the family of globins. The Group also owns the muscle protein myoglobin, the blood protein hemoglobin, as well as neuroglobin in the nervous system.

Introduction

The 2002 Cytoglobin first described occurs in almost all cells of vertebrates. It is probably the oxygen transport and storage in the cell, as well as the protection against oxidative stress. It even seems that from Cytoglobin during evolution by gene duplication which a muscle-specific variant myoglobin has become.

The Cytoglobin gene has been characterized in humans, mice and zebrafish 2002. The human Cytoglobin gene is located on chromosome 17q25. In humans and mice, the protein 190 amino acids (aa ) is large, in zebrafish 174 AS. Cytoglobin is expressed in humans in all tissues and has by sequence analysis a common evolutionary precursor to the myoglobin.
