Czechoslovakian parliamentary election, 1946

The parliamentary elections in Czechoslovakia in 1946 were held on May 26, 1946. These were the first elections after the Second World War and also the last before the Communist takeover in February 1948.

Candidates, political parties, government

Shortly before the election, the electoral rights was reduced from 21 to 18 years. Admission to the election was already in Article I. of the government program Kassa program, which was adopted by the Czechoslovak government in exile in London, intended: Parties who were suspected of collaboration with the protectorate were not admitted. The authorized parties as candidates on the unit list of the National Front, a coalition or opposition were not provided.

The following parties were allowed to choose from: In the Czech part of the country ( Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia), the Communist Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, the People's Socialists of the CSN, the People's Party CSL and the Social Democratic ČSDSD, Slovakia then the Communist KSS, the Democratic Party DS, the Christian SSL and the 1946 newly founded social Democratic SP. The election results are as follows:

At the election participated 7,099,411 voters. In Bohemia and Moravia won the Komunistická strana Československa ( 40.127 %), in Slovakia the demokratická strana ( 61.453 %). There were delivered about 0.5 percent of white list as a protest against the election of the unit list of the National Front.
