D. Aubrey Moodie

Douglas Aubrey Moodie ( born July 22, 1908 in Bells Corners, Nepean Township, Ontario; † 17 May 2008) was from 1954 to 1969 mayor of Nepean Township, Ontario, and was better known as "Father of Nepean " ( "Father of Nepean ").

Life

Moodie, a farmer, came in 1950 as deputy mayor to the city council of Nepean and worked in this position until he was appointed mayor four years later. He was from 1973 to 1976 Member of the City Council of Nepean. In 1958, during his time mayor, some tax cuts were initiated to encourage the construction of buildings in the city. He also lobbied for the construction of the Queensway - Carleton Hospital.

Until January 2005 Moodie lived in an assisted living facility in Richmond, Ontario in good health. His autobiography, The Spirit of Nepean (ISBN 0973335505 ), was published in 2003 with the help of Andrea McCormick. Moodie died on 17 May 2008 at the age of 99 years.

Honors

The D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School got its name in his honor.
