D. Bailey Merrill

D. Bailey Merrill ( born November 22, 1912 in Himera, Sullivan County, Indiana; † 14 October 1993 in Evansville, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1953 and 1955 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bailey Merrill visited until 1933, the Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute. He then worked as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington and its made ​​in 1937 admitted to the bar he began to practice in this profession. During the Second World War, Merrill served 1942-1946 in the U.S. Army.

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1952 he was in the eighth election district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat Winfield K. Denton on January 3, 1953. Since he lost in the years 1954 and 1956 respectively against Denton, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1955. After his second defeat, Bailey Merrill withdrew from politics. He died on 14 October 1993 in Evansville, where he was also buried.
