Daan Manneke

Daan Manneke ( born November 7, 1939 in Kruiningen, Zeeland ) is a Dutch composer and organist.

He studied composition with Jan van Dijk and organ with Huub HOUET and Louis Toebosch at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg. He then completed his organ studies at the Belgian organist Kamiel d' Hooghe in Brussels. After completing his studies he took further lessons in composition with Ton de Leeuw in Amsterdam.

With Ton de Leeuw connects Manneke today a close friendship. His former teacher gave him also in contact with Olivier Messiaen, in which he took some private composition lessons. 1976 got Daan Manneke the composition prize of the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.

From 1958 to 1969 Manneke was organist at St. Gertrudiskerk in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands. As a virtuoso he gave many concerts and recitals in the Benelux countries, Germany, France and the UK.

Since 1971 he is professor for improvisation and analysis of 20th-century music at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he also teaches composition since 1986.

Mannekes excellent with numerous awards work includes mainly sacred music and chamber music. He is also the founder and conductor of the chamber choir Cappella Breda, with whom he has recorded numerous CDs.
