Dachau Palace

The Dachau Palace on Castle Hill Dachau was the summer residence of the Wittelsbach family.

History

During the reign of William IV and V. Albrecht the legislation then there castle into a castle among others by the Munich court architect Heinrich and Wilhelm Schöttl Egkl was expanded with four wings.

The south-west wing was equipped by Hans Wisreutter from Munich in the years 1564 to 1566 with a magnificent wooden ceiling, which is preserved to this day. The castle was rebuilt in the 18th century by the court architect Joseph Effner. The staircase and the west facade from 1715 are built in the Regency style. The current castle is only a part of the original system, since King Max Joseph I. demolished three of the four wings, which had been severely damaged by the quartering of Napoleonic troops. Only the baroque ballroom tract remained.

The ballroom on the upper floor is now used as a concert hall. The hall has an ornate wooden ceiling and is considered one of the finest halls of the Renaissance north of the Alps.

Castle Park

The courtyard garden was begun in 1572. Finally, in order to enjoy the remarkable view from the Schlossberg can, several pavilions were built, of which three have survived. Famous and comparable to the vineyard Schloss Sanssouci, were the " hanging gardens " of the Schlossberg: terraces with precious espalier fruit. For garden design of the upper part of the parterres still existing portico of linden trees. Joseph Effner designed with his brother Johann Christoph Effner in 1717 the garden in the Baroque style. As a representative of an enlightened absolutism, Elector Max III. Joseph in 1765 to develop a pattern as the English landscape garden. Today, the lower parts of the garden are abandoned and awaiting their resurrection.
