Daejeon Citizen FC

The Daejeon Citizen FC is a football franchise from Daejeon, South Korea. Currently playing the franchise in the K League Challenge, the second- highest division of South Korea.

History

At the beginning of the K -League some games were played in Daejeon to make the league better known. Although the people went to the stadium and watched the games, but rather as a neutral observer, since Daejeon at this time had no specially franchise. From this grew the desire to start their own franchise.

This was taken in 1996 and 1997, the attack Daejeon Citizen FC was founded. The opening match of the K -League season 1997 were allowed to deny the Citizen. In the end they were seventh.

The first and only title of the franchise came in 2001. It won the cup final against Pohang Steelers 1-0.

Daejon was one of the host cities of the Football World Cup in 2002 and after the end of the World Cup moved the franchise to the new stadium, the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.
