Dafydd Williams

Dafydd Rhys "Dave" Williams OC ( born May 16, 1954 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian astronaut.

Williams grew up in the Canadian province of Quebec, where he attended high school in Beaconsfield. He then studied at McGill University in Montreal in 1976 and earned a bachelor's degree in biology. Seven years later, he earned a doctorate in human medicine specialist.

Astronauts activity

Williams was supported by the Canadian Space Agency ( CSA) selected in June 1992 and trained as an astronaut. He was also trained mission specialist in 1995 by the U.S. space agency NASA.

As a mission specialist, he took part in the mission STS -90 in April 1998.

Between July 1998 and September 2002, Williams was director of the Space and Live Science Directorate at the Johnson Space Center in Houston (Texas ).

In August 2007, Williams led with STS- 118 by his second spaceflight. During the two-week flight he undertook three spacewalks.

On 1 March 2008 Williams retired. He announced to want to soon leave the U.S. and move to Ontario in Canada.

Williams is married and has two children.
