Dagny Servaes

Dagny Servaes ( born March 10, 1894 in Berlin, † July 10, 1961 in Vienna) was a German - Austrian stage and film actress.

Life

The daughter of writer Franz Servaes (1862-1947) took acting lessons at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts. In 1912, she received an engagement at the court theater at Meiningen. From 1913 Dagny Servaes played at the prestigious Berlin theaters such as the German theater, Lessing Theatre and State Theatre.

In 1916 she was first used in a silent film, where she quickly played forward. Several times Emil Jannings was her partner, especially in the epic film The Loves of Pharaoh in 1921. Though already being hailed as the new star, their film tasks were in the years after something smaller. She turned back to the theater more and made with Max Reinhardt's ensemble from 1926 to 1928 a tour through the United States. In New York, she stood with the pieces everyone, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Danton's Death and Carlo Goldoni's Servant of Two Masters on the stage.

The sound film Dagny Servaes offered, who settled in Vienna in 1936, only minor roles. From 1938 to 1948 she played at the Theater in der Josefstadt and 1950 temporarily at the National Theatre. Since 1952 it belonged to the ensemble of the Burgtheater. Her grave is in Grinzing cemetery in Vienna Gr.36 / series 2 # 1A. Her daughter Evi Servaes also embarked on a theatrical career.
