Dagobert Biermann

Dagobert Biermann ( born November 13, 1904 in Hamburg, † February 22, 1943 in Auschwitz ) was a hamburger communist and resistance fighter against National Socialism.

Life

Dagobert Biermann was the son of John and Louise Biermann, nee Lowenthal, in Hamburg to the world. He was married to Emma and is the father of singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann. Biermann was a Jew, a member of the Communist Party and worked as a shipyard worker at Blohm Voss.

After Hitler came to power Biermann went into the ground and spread illegally Hamburg's newspaper. His group and he were discovered and Biermann received two years in prison in Lübeck. In May 1935 he was released from prison and was working as a mechanic at the German shipyard. He rejoined the KPD and the resistance. 1937 succeeded the resistance group to disclose the secret arms shipments to the Spanish dictator Franco Hitler internationally.

After introduction of a Gestapo spy in the resistance group Biermann was arrested again and sentenced to six years in prison. As a Jewish political prisoner, he was deported to Auschwitz and murdered there.
