Dagobert Friedländer

Life

Friedlaender was from a simple Jewish family and was 1846-1857 bookseller in stone wool. Later he founded together with his brother William, who had come to California to money in the bank Bromberg Brothers Friedlaender. This quickly grew in importance. In Bromberg Friedlaender belonged to prominent business bourgeoisie. He founded numerous charities and was elected honorary council and the county council. At the suggestion of the city in 1874, he was appointed for life to the Prussian mansion. He was one of two Jewish members of the House.

Friedlaender became the point of attack of the growing anti-Semitic movement in the German Empire in the 1880s. The attacks culminated in a disciplinary proceedings against him. Outraged because of these accusations and also as a result of personal threats put Friedlaender its urban honorary offices and also the manor seat down. He first moved to Frankfurt, where he wrote an illustration of the case and had it printed. At first he was once again working as a banker and twisted to Switzerland later.
