Dahme is a municipality in the district of East Holstein in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Dahme is a seaside health resort, which is about 20 km northeast of Neustadt in Holstein and nearly 15 km (depending on distance) south-east of Oldenburg in Holstein, just south of the east end of the Oldenburger Graben lies. The place is located so that in the idyllic countryside Wagriens on the northwestern edge of the Bay of Lübeck between pit and Kellenhusen. West State Road 501 runs in the direction of Neustadt Fehmarn. Dahme was first mentioned in 1299. Evidence of this is the memorial stone in the center of Dahme.

Personalities

Paul Walter (* 1913 Mönchengladbach, † 1993 in Dahme ), set designer, facilities manager at the National Theatre Mannheim, lived in Dahme.

In the 1960s, Uwe Johnson made for stays in a summer house in Dahmeshöved for his novel " anniversaries " inspired. In one of his text books, the writer Helmut Heissenbüttel mentioned in the poem "Postbus Dahme " an encounter with his colleague Uwe Johnson in Dahmeshöved.

Friedrich Dahl and Gerhard Domagk (Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1939, handed over to 1947) lived in Dahmeshöved, as Heinrich Plett, the first Managing Director of the new home, Hans Koch Hans Koch & Son and Tyll Necker.

Bats

Dahme is the first " bat friendly place in Germany". Over 100 homes have been honored as " bat friendly house" by NABU Schleswig -Holstein / Nature Conservation Foundation Schleswig -Holstein. Since May 2006 Dahme is the center of the first official " bat friendly region " of Germany.
