Daihatsu Charade

The Daihatsu Charade is a since 1977 (from 1978 export to Europe ) produced passenger car model of the Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu. A special feature of the Charade was that it was positioned exactly between the class of compact cars and compact cars. 2000, the model range has been temporarily suspended, and finally revived in some markets as a sister model to the Daihatsu Cuore 2003.

The first generation, the 1977 " Car of the Year " in Japan, ran from 1978 to 1983 as a three and five-door hatchback from the tape. This was followed by a much edgier designed successor.

In 1987 the third generation of Charade was presented, which was now also available as a four-door notchback sedan. This model is produced by the brand Xiali in China through a joint venture. In his remarks there appeared the models are very successful there until today. So far, three generations of Xiali were established as a direct sister model, and another merely as an optical branch.

Special attention deserves the Charade GTti, the sportiest offshoot of the series. He draws with the help of a turbocharger from a three-cylinder 12 - valve petrol engine with 993 cc displacement a power of 74 kW (101 hp). Due to the low curb weight of 810 kg an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 8.1 s is possible. Due to its robustness and the simple technique of Charade GTti was often successfully used in motorsport.

Another model change took place in 1994. Through the hitherto very sharp drop in sales figures for the Charade, this series was replaced by the Daihatsu Sirion 1997. To 2000, the hatchback variants and Short Back ( notchback ) of Charade Nevertheless, were offered in parallel with the Sirion.

In the UK and the markets of some other countries of the Daihatsu Cuore is sold as a Daihatsu Charade since 2003. In South Africa joined in 2008, the next generation of the Cuore, the successor to.

Between May 2011 and January 2013, the Daihatsu Charade was sold again in Germany. Unlike the British model, it is a sister model of the Toyota Yaris second generation.
