Daihatsu Charmant

The Daihatsu Charmant was a car model of the Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu. He was introduced in the spring of 1974.

First generation (1974-1981)

The first generation of the Charmant was a licensed version of the Toyota Corolla E20.

Available engines were of 1200-1600 cm ³. It gave him as a four-door notchback sedan and wagon. After Europe, he was only sporadically imported.

Second generation (1981-1987)

In October 1981, an independent follow-up model was introduced, which was developed on the platform of the Toyota Corolla E70.

For the first time the Charmant was also officially available in Germany. An estate version was no longer available. Installed were a 1.3 -liter or 1.6 -liter petrol engine with 5- speed manual transmission. As of mid- 1983, a 4 -speed automatic transmission was available for the 1.6 liter.

Mid-1987, production was stopped. Mid- 1989, the five-door successor Daihatsu Applause was presented.
