The highest point of Daisen

The Daisen (Japanese大 山, dt " great mountain ") is a 1729 -meter high volcano in Japan, and the center of the Daisen- Oki National Park. It is located in southwestern Honshu in Tottori Prefecture, about 20 km south of the coast. Lie the villages of Yonago and Kotoura at his feet.

The three main peaks of the mountain are largely unstable since an earthquake. The highest peak, Kengamine ( 1729 m) is therefore closed to climbers. Only the 1709 m high secondary summit Misen is open to climbers. It is accessible from the Daisen -ji Buddhist temple, which stands on about half of the mountain height within three hours. The mountain climbing is permitted on religious grounds only if accompanied by a monk of the monastery.

The Daisen plays a role, which are collectively referred to as Daisen Shinko in a variety of religious practices and ideas in Japan.
