Daisuke Takahashi

Daisuke Takahashi (Japanese髙 桥 大 辅, Takahashi Daisuke, born March 16, 1986 in Kurashiki ) is a Japanese figure skater who starts in a single run. He is the 2010 World Champion and Four Continents champion in 2008 and 2011.

Career

2002 Takahashi became the first Japanese Figure Skating Junior World Champion. His first big success in the seniors in 2007 was winning the vice-champion title on home soil in Tokyo, behind Brian Joubert. In 2008 he also won the Four Continents Championship. There, he set up the valid to 2011 world records for freestyle and total score.

After one year injury break he presented himself at the Olympic Games in Vancouver again in its former strength and won behind Evan Lysacek and Evgeni Plyushchenko the bronze medal. It was the first Olympic medal for a Japanese figure skater. At the World Championships 2010 in Turin Takahashi became the first Japanese to win the title in the men's competition. He used the composition La Strada by Nino Rota for his routine.

In February 2011, Takahashi won his second title in Taipei sovereign at Four Continents Championships. As reigning world champion Takahashi went to the World Cup, which took place as planned in Tokyo, but in Moscow due to the earthquake in Japan. After his short program, which did not include a quadruple jump, he had been lying in third place. His freestyle he had to stop right at the start because of a problem skids. On his first jump, toe loop four times, he noticed the damage that had to stop the plunge and took a three-minute break to fix the problem. The leap he was not allowed to repeat after this time out according to the regulations. After two second places in his Grand Prix competitions Takahashi won in December 2012 in Sochi became the first Japanese Grand Prix Final. He joined the Japanese championships from second behind Yuzuru Hanyu. However, neither at the Four Continents Championship still in the World Cup in 2013 he was able to continue his performance from the Grand Prix Final and remained in seventh or sixth without a medal.

Training

Takahashi studied together with Nobunari Oda at Kansai University. For some years he commuted to his training between Hackensack, New Jersey, where he trained with Nikolai Morozov, and Osaka, where he coached at Utako Nagamitsu. In May 2008, he finished with Nikolai Morozov Zusammenerbeit.
