Daisy chain (electrical engineering)

As Daisy Chain (English, literally means " daisy chain " ) refers to a number of hardware components that are connected in series with each other - mostly in the so-called bus systems in automation technology.

The first component is directly connected to a computer system ( computer bus). The other components are now connected with their predecessors ( series circuit principle) and so a chain is formed ( therefore called daisy chain ). The signal to and from a component is now entering its predecessors back to the computer system. It is important in this circuit, the components that priorities can be assigned. Thus it can be determined that information, for example, can only be transmitted when the line is free, or that some components have absolute priority over others. This conflicts and malfunctions can be prevented.

Is computer Internally, the daisy- chain configuration, for example, also used in the VMEbus, and indeed in the bus and interrupt assignment (shown here in the picture / IACK daisy chain [ Interrupt Acknowledge, dt: interrupt acknowledgment ], red wires for Daisy chain jumper to bridge the lack of slots in the daisy chain ).
