Daktronics Inc. is an electronics manufacturer from the United States, headquartered in Brookings, South Dakota. The company manufactures and markets video displays, sports display systems and promotional displays. In fiscal 2011, Daktronics achieved sales of 489.2 million U.S. dollars and employed approximately 2,300 people.

History

Daktronics was founded in 1968 by Aelred Kurtenbach and Duane Sander, two professors from the South Dakota State University in Brookings. The first products were electronic voting systems for regional parliaments and in 1971 the company developed the patented Matside ® wrestling scoreboard first own product.

1994 Daktronics went public. Since then, the company's shares are traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol DAKT.

The Daktronics GmbH was founded in 2003 as a German subsidiary of Daktronics Inc.. 2006 yielded to a new high- definition video scoreboard for the Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, with dimensions of 41 m by 25 m and a pixel resolution of 2064 x 848 At that time it was the largest display in the world.

Products

Daktronics has specialized in the manufacture of displays. Among other things, video displays and large display panels are manufactured for sports stadiums. Also, huge billboards and traffic signs are among the products of the company.
