Dalbeattie

Dalbeattie (Gaelic: Dail Bheithe, " Birkental " ) is a town in Dumfries and Galloway (formerly Kirkcudbrightshire ), Scotland. The 4289 -inhabitant city was famous for its granite mining.

Industry and Tourism

From Dalbeattie originating material for the construction of many famous buildings such as the attachment of the Thames, the Mersey Docks in Liverpool and the Eddystone Lighthouse. Also in the city itself granite was installed. In addition to the granite industry, there were several factories in Dalbeattie, coil, gloves, cheese, automobiles, steel, and much more manufactured.

Today, the industry is in decline and the city is focused on tourism.

Sons and daughters

Dalbeattie is the hometown of William M. Murdoch, the first officer of the RMS Titanic, who died in the sinking. His memorial stone was erected in the city in honor.
