Dale County, Alabama

The Dale County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ozark.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Alabama, each about 40 km from Florida and Georgia is removed and has an area of 1457 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Barbour County, Henry County, Houston County, Geneva County, Coffee County and Pike County.

History

Dale County was formed on December 22, 1824. It was named after General Samuel Dale, a pioneer and soldier in the Indian War. First district capital was Daleville and 1870 this was Ozark. The courthouse was destroyed in 1869 and 1884 respectively by fire.

In the international press, the County came in 2013, as a multi-day hostage-taking in Midland City, a town in the county took place.

The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.0 persons.

26.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.6 percent between 18 to 24, 30.3 percent between 25 and 44, 21.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.8 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males to females age 18 and over, there 95 men.

The median income for a household was $ 32,000, and the median income for a family $ 37,800. Males have a median income of $ 29,840, women $ 20,000. The per capita income was $ 16,000. 12.6 percent of families and 15.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
