Daler Mehndi

Daler Mehndi ( Punjabi: ਦਲੇਰ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ; born August 18, 1967 in Patna, Bihar ) is an Indian Bhangra and pop singer. He studied punjabische music. His first album broke sales records in India. Since 1995 he has recorded many successful albums in India, and was seen frequently in Bollywood films as a singer. In recent years he had increasing international success, which allowed him to take a tour of the United States. Mehndi is known in addition to his singing career as a philanthropist who committed to beautification work in Delhi and help earthquake victims.

Biography

Mehndi was born as a Sikh in the northern Indian Patna and raised. He began with five years and learned to sing ragas and Shabads from the Adi Granth. From the age of 14 he learned tabla, harmonium and tanpura at his uncle Raahat Ali Khan Saheb. Mehndi married in 1986 and now has three children. After his wedding Mehndi moved to San Francisco and worked as a taxi driver before he moved back to India in 1991 and formed a band. At first he sang ghazals, which were inspired by the poets Qateel Shifai and Firaq Gorakhpuri.

Curiosities

The computer game company Blizzard Entertainment took as the dance steps of the Draenei in World of Warcraft game where Mehndis, he envisioned doing in his music video Tunak Tunak.

In the fandom of anime television series K -On! were spreading numerous MADs ( created by Japanese fans music videos), joined the excerpts from the music videos of Daler Mehndi with the music and typical scenes of the anime. Due to the very successful series that has a large following, he gained a certain fame, of which he himself was not aware at the scene. But this was not just K -On! but many other animes, which were also combined with its Tunak Tunak Tun music video.
