History

Pre-and early Roman Dalheim

South of Dalheim, the former tribal area of Treverians, was a Roman vicus, whereby earlier finds were made, whereby a spätlatènezeitliche predecessor settlement is accepted. Due to lack of finds this can not be confirmed, however, the first excavation areas above 100 m were removed from an important ancient road junction, where more can be expected with finds from this period. The settlement seems to have left BC after Trevereraufstand of 30/ 29, but already at 18/17 BC, it was revived in the course of the construction of a highway as a suitable stage stop and was from then on around 400 years. At that time it was called Ricciacum.

Gallo - Roman theater

On 26 June 1985, it was begun in Dalheim to search for the remains of a Roman building. Here we discovered the remains of the theater. The excavation was begun on 26 May 1999. The whole theater was covered with a two to three -meter-thick layer of soil.

There were unearthed eight rows of seats and ten steps, while the first row of seats was completely preserved. The theater had a diameter of 62.50 meters and could house up to 3500 people.
