Dall Island

Dall Iceland is an island of the Alexander archipelago off the southeast coast of Alaska ( Panhandle ) located to the west of Prince of Wales Island and north of the Canadian waters. The highest elevation is 745 m. With an area of ​​657.9 km ², it takes the list of the largest islands of the United States a 28th rank. The highest mountain is the Thunder Mountain in the northern part of the island, with a height of 948 meters.

The census of 2000 reported 20 inhabitants of the island. Of the natives of Alaska is known that they inhabited the coastal caves 2,000 to 3,000 years ago.

The island is used for fisheries, forestry and as a limestone quarry.

The island was formerly called Quadra, named after Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra until it was renamed in 1879 in honor of the naturalist William Healey Dall.

Cape Muzon, the southern tip of the island, is the western terminus, known as Point A, the AB line that marks the maritime border between the U.S. state of Alaska and the Canadian province of British Columbia in accordance with the Alaska Boundary Treaty of 1903. This line is also the northern boundary of the Dixon Entrance Strait said.
