Dallas County (Arkansas)
The Dallas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fordyce.
Geography
The County is located in south-central Arkansas and has an area of 1731 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Dallas County was formed on January 1, 1845 from parts of Bradley County and the Claek County.
It was named after George Mifflin Dallas (1792-1864), who served as the eleventh Vice President of the United States from 1845 to 1849.
1846 the first County Courthouse was built. The former County affairs were conducted in a private home. 1850 County had 256 slaves holders and 2,542 slaves.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Dallas County 8,116 people in 3,297 households. The population density was 4.7 people per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 55.2 percent white, 41.9 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 2.3 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
In the 3,297 households lived statistically 2.34 per person.
24.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.1 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.3 percent were 65 years or older. 51.4 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was $ 30,454. The per capita income was $ 16,971. 23.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
