Dallas Willard

Dallas Willard ( born September 4, 1935 in Buffalo, Missouri, † May 8, 2013 ) was an American philosopher and spiritual writer.

Academic career

Willard William Jewell College and studied at Tennessee Temple College philosophy and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He then graduated from Baylor University a Master of Arts in Philosophy and Religion ( 1957). At the University of Wisconsin, he finally received his doctorate in 1964 in Philosophy ( PhD).

After various teaching Willard was most recently Professor of Philosophy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Work

In addition to a number of publications to his academic major themes Willard has performed the works of the German mathematician and philosopher Edmund Husserl (1859-1938) translated into American.

In addition, his popular -written spiritual books are considered a major influence on a number of other authors, including John Ortberg, Gordon MacDonald, Brennan Manning, Richard Foster, Henri Nouwen or.

Willard himself was heavily influenced by the study, among others, Augustine of Hippo, John Calvin, John Wesley, and Brother Lawrence.
