Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research

The Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research (Italian Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull'Intelligenza Artificiale ( IDSIA )) was founded in 1988 by Dalle Molle private foundation. 1997 IDSIA was one of the best AI research facilities in the world listed biologically -inspired AI in the area. Since 2000 IDSIA (Italian Università della Svizzera Italiana University of Italian Switzerland, ) and SUPSI ( University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland, Italian Scuola universitaria professional of Lugano ) is a public research institution and with the local universities USI connected.

Ant algorithms developed by Marco Dorigo ( former employees) and director Luca Maria Gambardella are now in widespread use in the field of numerical optimization. The research field of swarm intelligence is still one of the priorities of the Institute. Another focus is on machine learning and artificial neural networks.

Since 2007 there is another focus with the focus on robotics. The IDSIA Robotics Lab, especially with the research in the field of swarm robotics and humanoid robots, won several awards.

IDSIA is one of three Swiss research institutions by the Dalle Molle Foundation were founded:
