Daloa
Daloa is a city in the west of Ivory Coast with about 227,800 inhabitants. It is the capital of the region of Haut -Sassandra and within those also of the Department Daloa also the seat of the diocese Daloa.
Infrastructure
Daloa located on major north-south and east-west routes and is the center of the cocoa trade in Ivory Coast. Coffee, cola nuts and Sipo wood from the region go from here to the coast for shipment. At the local level Daloa is trade center for rice, cassava, yams, bananas and cotton.
Daloa also located on the main connection to Yamoussoukro and San - Pédro.
History
Daloa was of two Africans, Gboto founded by the Bété and Dalo of the Gouro, and in 1903 French military post.
In the civil war in Ivory Coast Daloa was fought between the government and rebels. After the capture of the city in 2002 by government troops, several dozen civilians were killed because they were suspected of supporting the Mouvement patriotique de Côte d'Ivoire rebels.
As part of the government crisis 2010/2011, the city fell into the hands of the Forces Républicaines de Côte d' Ivoire on 29 March 2011.
Population
Most important ethnic groups in the city are the Bété and Gouro, more recently, Baule, Jula and Mossi have immigrated.
