Dalriada (Band)

Dalriada is a company incorporated in 1998, Hungarian folk metal band trying to create a sophisticated synthesis between the metal and Hungarian folk music. It is one of the most popular metal bands in Hungary and has experienced a number of positive reviews by the trade press.

Foundation and name

The predecessor band of the group " Dalriada " was founded in 1998 in Sopron. The professional musical activity in a relatively stable occupation did not begin until February 2003. From that time on she was called " Echo of Dalriada ". " Dalriada " was a kingdom Celtic Scots from about 300 to 800 after a few philological studies " Dalriada " but also an old Hungarian word may mean the " Battle Song " ( csatadal ) or " alarm song" ( riadó dal ). The addition of " Echo of " the band have added to that name, because it was an Australian folk-rock band under this name at the time of designation. In March 2007, but you deleted the supplement of the name, and since then the band is called only " Dalriada ".

Music style

Dalriada itself defines her style as epic folk metal. Since its inception, the band tries a challenging synthesis between the metal and the Hungarian folk music - using other musical influences (eg Renaissance music) - to create. In their songs they sing of Hungarian history and revive their legends. Therefore, all the songs are written in Hungarian. Another feature of the group in the Metal scene is that a woman's voice (Laura Binder ), dominates the text lead in most songs. The male singer is András Ficzek.

History

"A Walesi Bardok " & " Fergeteg "

After her first local and regional concerts, the group released in December 2003, a demo with the music to the ballad of the Hungarian poet of the XIX. János Arany A century Walesi Bardok ( The Bards of Wales) in 3 sets. In this demo was followed by good reviews and a number of concert invitations.

"A Walesi Bardok " and other songs of the band were sent in 2004 to the regional radio stations and internet radios often. Dalriada was elected in August on the website " diaksziget.com " the band of the month. In November, their first album was released under the title " Fergeteg " ( storm ). It contained, inter alia, the material of which appeared a year earlier demos that setting the Arany ballad " A Walesi Bardok ". The band also took part in the Moby Dick tribute album " BálnaVadÁszok " with the new interpretation of the song " Beteg a Föld " ( The Earth is sick ) part. Dalriada was assessed at the end of the year in a poll of readers of the Hungarian "Hammer World " Hard Rock and Heavy Metal magazine as " The greatest hope of 2005 ". In addition, her first published song " A Walesi Bardok " reached on this poll in the category " Song of the Year " in sixth place.

" Jégbontó "

The band played many concerts in 2005, and at the end of their second album was completed. In February 2006, this CD was released under the title " Jégbontó " ( icebreaker ). She reached in the next year in the vote on the Hungarian Metal Awards " HangSúly " in the category " Best Album 2006" to second place. Dalriada was the first time achieve high audience numbers in its nationwide concerts. At the end of 2006, the third album of the band was recorded. This was evaluated in a survey of the readers of the "Hammer World" magazine as " The most anticipated album of the year 2007".

" Kikelet "

On 12 March 2007 the third album " Kikelet " ( Lenz), which became a huge success in both the trade press and the audience appeared. In contrast to previous works, the instruments of the band were with a violin (played by guest musician Attila Fajkusz ) supplements. The album was in the week of release, the fourth best-selling CD of Hungary. Readers of the "Hammer World" magazine voted the band this year in several categories in the top ten ( among other things was the singer of the group, Laura Binder, the "Best Hungarian singer " rated and Dalriada reached in the category "Best Hungarian Band" the sixth place ). In addition, the CD " Kikelet " was in the vote on the Hungarian Metal Awards " HangSúly " in the category "Best Studio Production 2007" in 2008 to third place. During the year following the release of the CD tour, the band played in almost all parts of Hungary concerts, and she was invited to numerous renowned festivals.

" Szelek "

On 14 April 2008, the fourth CD of Dalriada was published under the title " Szelek " ( Winds), whose public presentation took place on the Paganfest in Budapest. This album was the week of the show 's second best-selling CD of Hungary. From September 2008 to February 2009 (Tour On the wings of the winds ) was the biggest concert tour the band under the title " Szelek Szárnyán Turné " instead. " Arany -album "

In the summer of 2009 the band ( Sziget Fesztivál among others Rockmaraton, Hegyalja Fesztivál, ) took among many festival appearances and their new CD, which was published under the title " Arany -album " September 28, 2009. It contains only settings of poems by the Hungarian national poet János Arany ( including / newly orchestrated / some songs from previous albums of the band: "A Walesi Bardok " from " Fergeteg ", "A Rab Golya " / The trapped Stork / also of " Fergeteg " and the first part of the poem " Szondi Két Apródja " / Szondi 's two pages / of " Jégbontó " and the second part of " Kikelet "). With the " Arany -album " Dalriada won the " HangSúly Hungarian Metal Award 2009", a national band competition with 70 participants.

" Igeret "

The sixth studio album called " Igeret " was released in February 2011. For the first time not only Hungarian texts were used, but with a guest appearance of the singer Jonne Järvelä the Finnish band Korpiklaani album also contains a song with Finnish deposits. " Igeret " was also the first release of the band on the international market. The review of the album in the German Metal Hammer emphasized the mixing of different metal styles such as Gothic, Thrash and Death Metal with Hungarian folklore as a special element of the band and also noted that Korpiklaani had a great musical influence on Dalriada total.

Grand Prix Euro Vision Song Contest

In January 2013, the band took part in the Hungarian qualifying round for Euro Vision Song Contest, but could not qualify for the final award in Sweden.
